Cakes don't necessarily have to be sweet. In Germany, vegetable, cottage cheese or cheese fillings flavored with spices and aromatic herbs are equally popular.
The inhabitants of medieval monasteries in Germany were famous not only for their ability to brew beer. The monks also mastered the art of making flavorful cheeses. For this recipe, you will need goat cheese or tofu, a vegetable version.

Butter 500 g |
Flour 50 g |

Step 1
The base of savory cakes is puff pastry, for the preparation of which butter can be replaced with coconut oil or margarine.
Step 2
From 550 grams of flour, 300 ml of cold (ice) water, 10 grams of salt, 10 grams of sugar, 50 grams of butter knead the dough, wrap in a damp towel, cool in the refrigerator (about half an hour).
Step 3
Mix 500 grams of butter with 50 grams of flour, roll out 1 centimeter thick. Wrap in a towel, cool in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes.
Step 4
Roll out the chilled dough, put a layer of chilled butter on it, wrap in an envelope. Roll out, fold the edges of the dough (with butter) into an envelope again, roll out, refrigerate. Repeat the operation 3 more times, then chill the dough again, roll it out again and leave it for about 20 minutes.
Step 5
Cut the ready puff into squares or use a mold to cut out circles. You can lay out the molds for baking. Then the pastry will turn out in the form of cakes. On the dough spread the filling of grated or finely chopped cheese (150-200 grams) mixed with a tablespoon of honey, fresh or dried spices - marjoram, thyme - and a pinch of hot pepper.
Step 6
Bake in a preheated oven (200°C) for 10-15 minutes. Sprinkle with coke sprinkles or ground almonds before serving.
