A Monte Cristo sandwich is a pan-fried or deep-fried ham and cheese sandwich. In the 1930s and 1960s, American cookbooks had recipes for this sandwich under such names as "French sandwich," "toasted ham sandwich," and "French grilled cheese sandwich."

milk 60 ml |
vegetable oil 40 ml |

Step 1
Combine eggs with milk, salt and spices. Stir with a whisk.
Step 2
Spread cheese and ham on 4 slices of bread. Cover with the remaining bread.
Step 3
Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture and fry in vegetable oil until browned. Enjoy!
