To make traditional matcha, you will need a teawan (chawan), a Japanese tea bowl, a measuring spoon, and a special whisk, a chasen made of bamboo, which is used to whip the tea into a foam. You will also need matcha tea and drinking water.

Step 1
Pour boiling water into the draught pan and whisk it with a whisk. This is to heat the pot in which you will cook the matcha.
Step 2
Wipe the utensils dry.
Step 3
Pour in two scoops of matcha. This is about 2 grams of tea per serving of matcha. You can also sift the powder through a strainer to make it easier to whisk.
Step 4
Pour in a small amount of hot water and whisk until all the powder is dissolved.
Step 5
Pour in the rest of the hot water and continue to whisk. The longer you whisk, the thicker the foam will be.
Step 6
Serve and drink matcha immediately after preparation, otherwise the powder will settle to the bottom of the cup and the tea will lose its full flavor.
Matcha also goes well with milk, and it is the matcha latte that is mostly popular in Europe. Since it is a non-traditional brewing method, there are many ways to prepare a tea latte. You can use soy, coconut or regular milk as a base, add sweetener to taste or dilute with water for a less thick drink.
